Defence Raises the Alert State

Defence raises the so-called ‘Alert State’ starting today. This goes from the first to the second level (A to A+). In total, there are 6 levels. The reason for the increase is a heightened threat. Defence has informed the House about this today.

The Alert State A+ means additional security measures. Defence asks the personnel to be extra vigilant for suspicious individuals, vehicles, packages, and drones and to report suspicious situations immediately. Commanders are also asked to bring the increase to the attention of all personnel. Everyone must adhere to these measures.

Substantively, Defence does not provide further information on security measures as usual.

Threat Analysis MIVD

The reason for the increase in the Alert State is the threat analysis of the MIVD. It notes that other countries are increasingly willing to engage in sabotage activities, even close to the Dutch border.

The increase is also related to heightened threats in Europe. Currently, there is no concrete threat against a defence location.

Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Defence has already declared an Alert State A (Alpha). The Alert States within Defence are based on those of NATO. This means that there are additional measures on the basic security. The higher the threat, the stricter the measures.
