The fleet group is deployed to protect important underwater infrastructure, such as energy and data cables. The other 3 ships of the fleet group are currently doing this in the Baltic Sea as part of the NATO mission Baltic Sentry. Closer to home, in the North Sea, the ships are also being used to prevent sabotage.
The international visit also promotes support for the upcoming NATO summit in June. The fleet group contributes to security from the sea, with the Royal Netherlands Navy also playing a role.
Zr.Ms. Tromp
The air defense and command frigate Zr.Ms. Tromp plays a key role within the task group. It is equipped with the advanced SMART-L radar, which can detect ballistic missiles and enemy aircraft.
The SNMG1 is one of the 4 fleet groups that are available 24/7 for NATO missions. The Dutch commander Arjen Warnaar leads the task group.
The city of Rotterdam illuminates the Wereldmuseum in blue and white in honor of the visit of the units. After the weekend, the ships will depart again. The fleet group will then participate in the NATO exercise Ramstein Flag and direct aircraft conducting air defense operations from the sea. Zr.Ms. Tromp is also capable of providing situational awareness and shares information with units on land, at sea, and in the air, ensuring everyone has the same picture.
