The vessels are equipped with numerous sensors, weapons, and communication systems. Dozens of maritime drones are also part of the package. The first deliveries have already been made and will continue until 2026.
“This is an important package to strengthen the maritime security of Ukraine. We see that the Russian threat in the Black Sea and the Dnieper River is only increasing,” said Brekelmans. “The port of Odessa and the trade routes that run through the Black Sea are considered the lifeblood of the Ukrainian economy. Without the right protection, this could collapse. We simply cannot let that happen.”
The Netherlands is also investing 20 million in the Maritime Regional Training Centre. Here, Ukrainian marines are trained. This package includes weapons, ammunition, and personal and tactical equipment.
Last F-16s delivered
The minister further stated that the last Dutch F-16s have recently been sent to Ukraine. He expressed his gratitude to Denmark and the United States, the two partners in the Air Force Capability Coalition. Together, this delivery has been made possible.
“But the job is not done yet,” the minister noted. “Our work continues with the training of pilots, maintenance personnel, and other ground staff. We will also continue to support the Ukrainian Air Force regarding parts, infrastructure, and ammunition.”
