Security deficiencies were revealed, among other things, by the deployment of test teams from Defence. These are employees who managed to penetrate defence locations without permission. This was especially successful at locations with outdated real estate. Additionally, the AR concludes that the security awareness and behavior of defence employees did not improve last year, which is an essential part of security.
Security Risks
Defence employees are sometimes helpful and too trusting towards strangers. As a result, unauthorized individuals could gain access to the (strictly) secured military objects. This can lead to security risks. With increasing threats, improving security is a high priority.
Last year, several awareness initiatives and programs were launched. These are being further developed and expanded across all defence components. This includes e-learning, information meetings, and training programs. The security organization DBBO has also been expanded with additional security personnel.
In addition, Defence conducted extensive research in 2024 into the causes of the security problems of military objects. Based on this, an improvement plan was drawn up last month. As part of this, a behavior campaign is in the works, additional practical tests are scheduled, and extra security measures have been taken.
Increased Alert State
Since this month, the so-called Alert State has been raised. It went from the first to the second level (A to A+) on a scale of 6 levels. Defence personnel are asked to be extra vigilant and report suspicious situations immediately. Content-wise, Defence does not provide further information about security measures as usual.
