Residents near the airbase may find rattle noise disturbing. To limit the nuisance, Defence started a pilot project with Rijkswaterstaat at 15 homes. Together with the residents, measures were examined to determine which ones could be most effective. Contractors will begin preparations this month. Implementation at the first houses will start later this year. The experiences from the pilot will be used to take appropriate measures at 260 other homes in the future.
Experience with facade insulation
Rijkswaterstaat brings knowledge and experience through the Facade Insulation project. This program has been in existence for decades. Within this program, over 23,000 homes have been examined and more than 2,300 houses have been insulated. This was done not only along highways but also near railway lines, Schiphol, and regional airports.
Collaboration with the community
For Defence, this is the first project in this area. The organization is looking for the best approach to reduce rattle noise and thereby improve the livability in the area. This is done in collaboration with the municipality of Gilze and Rijen, the Rattle Noise Gilze-Rijen Foundation, local residents, and Rijkswaterstaat.
