The war in Ukraine shows that drones can be used in many ways. Therefore, Defence wants the Netherlands to develop and produce more drones itself. The organization is now making an official call, a so-called tender. Dutch start-ups and other companies can respond to this, possibly together, and offer their ideas. This can be done until October 29, 2025.

Within APOS, all defense components work together to realize the best unmanned systems for the units. The Dutch market is also strengthened, so that more components and systems are made in the country.

Test Area

Together with the Province of South Holland, Defence is working on the first Dutch test area for drones. There, drones can also fly out of sight of the pilot. This keeps Defence prepared for the most important tasks.

Prime Minister Schoof previously stated that the Netherlands wants to play a leading role in this area within the European Union. APOS, the close cooperation with Ukraine, and the experience gained from the NATO summit give the Netherlands a good starting position.
