This school year, approximately 2300 students enrolled in the Safety & Craftsmanship (VeVa) training. It prepares them for a job within the armed forces. About 950 young people transition to a military role as a soldier, sailor, marine, corporal, or non-commissioned officer.
The training is an important breeding ground for Defence. More than 4 out of 10 soldiers under the age of 35 have a VeVa background.
However, that number can be higher, says Secretary of State Gijs Tuinman. “With the ambition to grow to 100,000 people by 2030, it is essential that we strengthen the intake routes.” According to him, training places must be further expanded. The connection with ROC’s can also be improved.
Other Programs
In addition to VeVa, there are several other programs through which young people can get acquainted with Defence. Think of the Year of Service, the National Resilience Training, Defensity College, and the Social Service Time.
