Today, a total of 44 separate digital regional licenses were available. These are so-called DAB-only licenses that remained after the auction of the packages at the end of May (FM and DAB) for non-national commercial use. 29 of the 44 digital licenses have been granted in this auction. The remaining space (15 licenses) can be used by parties until the ministry decides whether they can be issued again, for example, through another auction.
The regional DAB-only licenses have been granted to: Radio JND, Radio Simone, 4EVER49 Media, Regional Radio Frequency, Stichting Gigant FM, GLXY Radio, Blended Broken Beats, Radio Team, Landmark Development, Radio Limburg 97FM, Radio BNT, TiDa, and Stichting Radika.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs auctions radio frequencies when there is more demand than supply. This way, both existing parties and interested newcomers have an equal chance to secure a place in the market. The National Inspectorate for Digital Infrastructure (RDI) conducts the auction on behalf of the ministry. In 2023, the national commercial radio licenses were already auctioned by the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
