The twelve projects focus on strategic technologies that are important for social and economic impact. Examples include the latest generation of semiconductor chips, making Dutch food production more sustainable, developing new water purification techniques, as well as personalized nanotherapies for cancer treatment. Particles ranging from nano- to micrometer size ensure that medicines reach specific locations in the body.
Minister Vincent Karremans (Economic Affairs): “For more than fifteen years, the Perspective program has contributed to technological solutions for societal challenges and economic growth. Especially at a time when innovation is essential for our health, safety, and prosperity, it is crucial that researchers and entrepreneurs work together. By stimulating public-private cooperation and investing purposefully in knowledge development, we ensure that the Netherlands remains at the forefront in the future. And that with our strong knowledge base, we ultimately continue to generate revenue.”
Perspective focused on more technology development in the Netherlands
Perspective is a program of the NWO, funded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The program challenges researchers to form collaborative projects with businesses, social organizations, and governments for research aimed at societal challenges and various key technologies such as photonics, biotechnology, and AI.
Together, the project participants work on technological innovations with social impact and creating economic opportunities for the Netherlands. This way, the projects contribute to the innovation policy of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Entrepreneurs and researchers can start working with this support over the next six years.
NWO has decided to allocate additional projects within this round in 2025 due to the high quality of proposals. For this, a one-time 20 million euros was added to the available budget, which now amounts to 46.4 million euros.
