Due to the measures to combat the spread of the coronavirus, most events have not been able to take place since the beginning of the corona crisis. Initially, cancellation costs were covered in many cases by cancellation insurance. Due to the corona crisis, insurers have removed this option from their cancellation policies. As a result, organizers can no longer bear the financial risk of cancellation for upcoming events themselves.

Conditions

The support is intended for professional organizers of events scheduled in the Netherlands between July 1 and December 31, 2021. This includes festivals, concerts, sports events, and business events. With this scheme, the government guarantees the costs incurred if an event is unexpectedly canceled due to a government ban related to corona. To qualify for the guarantee scheme, organizers must have an event permit from the relevant municipality. A statement from the municipality that a permit would have been issued if there had been no event ban is also possible.

Organizations that qualify for the scheme will receive most (80%) of the costs back as a grant, while a loan can be taken out for the remaining 20%.

Events Allowed from Step 4

From step 4 of the reopening plan, events can be organized using access tests or a recovery or vaccination certificate with 100% of the visitor capacity. The 1.5-meter distance can also be waived during the event. The first 4 weeks after step 4, events of a maximum of 24 hours are possible with a maximum of 25,000 visitors per day. An overnight stay is allowed if it falls within the 24-hour period. Multi-day events without overnight stays may also take place. Visitors must show a new corona access certificate (negative corona test or a vaccination or recovery certificate) each day.

After 4 weeks, the restrictions will be lifted, and multi-day events with overnight stays will also be allowed again. Multi-day events with overnight stays scheduled in the first 4 weeks after step 4 that meet the requirements will qualify for the Guarantee Scheme for Events.
