State Secretary Sandra Palmen of Recovery and Benefits writes this today in a letter to the House of Representatives. The task for the administrative director, which has been drawn up together with the Association of Dutch Municipalities, is to promote timely, coherent, and people-centered assistance to affected parents and impacted children and youth. Blokhuis will work on this together with municipalities, ministries, and involved organizations.
In addition to financial recovery, support in resuming life is an essential part of the recovery operation for affected benefits parents and their families. Municipalities play an important role in providing broad support across five areas of life: finances, family, work, housing, and care. The Van Dam advisory committee indicated earlier this year that it is necessary to reduce the differences in the approaches of municipalities. Following this, Blokhuis will work on further harmonization of broad support while allowing room for customization. As a result, parents will better know what assistance they can count on.
Furthermore, the administrative director will work to ensure that the municipal recovery tasks in the recovery operation ultimately align with existing social services. Within his mandate, the administrative director pays special attention to families and youth who have lost control over their lives before or as a result of the benefits affair. Following the advice of the Van Dam committee, an integrated approach will be provided for these families to address the various problems they face.
