Minister Robert Tieman (Infrastructure and Water Management) reports this in a letter to the House of Representatives.

On April 1, 2025, the interim driving test was abolished for a maximum of one year to give examiners more time for the driving exams themselves. Due to the corona pandemic, a large backlog had developed, causing candidates to often wait a long time before they could take their exam. Result: since April 1, 2025, 36,000 more driving exams have been taken than would normally have been the case.

Minister Tieman: “Half a year ago, candidates in some cases had to wait up to 23 weeks before they could take their driving exam. If you are ready to drive and then have to wait that long, it is of course very frustrating. To my satisfaction, the CBR has managed to reduce this period everywhere in the Netherlands: at the end of September it was a maximum of 9 weeks, now even a maximum of 7! In Limburg and Zeeland, the waiting time is even so low that interim tests can be taken again there. I am very pleased with this progress.”

The CBR continues to work on reducing reservation periods. Examiners at quieter locations are deployed to support busier locations.

The interim driving test can be reserved again from November at the exam locations in Kerkrade, Maastricht, Urmond, Roermond, Venlo, Weert, Terneuzen, Vlissingen, and Goes.
