Start Explorations to Keep and Make the Brainport Region Accessible

Today, the signal has been given to start the explorations to keep and make the western side of the Brainport region accessible. This was done by regional leaders together with the Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, Barry Madlener, during a working visit to the Brainport Industries Campus in Eindhoven.

Minister Madlener: “The Brainport region Eindhoven is an important technology region with economic top locations on the western side of the region. The number of jobs and homes is expected to grow rapidly in the coming years. Good infrastructure is essential for economic top locations. I will do my utmost to ensure that the region becomes more accessible for both businesses and the people living here. Together, we ensure a good business climate for the microchip sector.”

The Brainport region is an important economic area for the Netherlands and is rightly one of our main ports. In the Beethoven Covenant, the national government and the region have made agreements. For mobility, a total of one billion euros in measures has been agreed upon in the Beethoven Covenant. Of that, 503 million euros is allocated for the approach to the A2/N2, including the Brainport line and the northwestern connection of the Brainport region. This will make the region more accessible by both car and public transport.

An important step is the start of an integral MIRT exploration into the A2/N2, a Brainport line, and the northwestern connection. The minister marked the start of these explorations together with councilors from Eindhoven, Veldhoven, Best, Oirschot, and the deputy of the province of North Brabant.

Councilor Robert Strijk from the municipality of Eindhoven: "The campus development around ASML is of great importance for the Dutch and European economy. Therefore, it is good and important that we work together with the national government, province, and region to make this innovation cluster in Eindhoven sustainably accessible."

Councilor Jeroen Rooijakkers from the municipality of Veldhoven: “These explorations are important so that we not only keep the economic top locations accessible but also connect them with each other and with the Brainport hubs and Best station. Together, we proudly build a future-proof region where smart mobility, innovation, and livability go hand in hand.”

The MIRT exploration into the A2/N2 has now formally started. It is expected that a preferred decision will be made by the end of 2026. To make this preferred decision, it is necessary that the regional explorations are also completed by then. This is expected to be the case.
