People who still send their drone into the air risk a high fine, a summons, and the loss or seizure of their drone.
It is up to drone pilots to check whether there are any additional restrictions in municipalities.
The flight maps of GoDrone and Aeret Kaartviewer show the (prohibited) flight zones in the Netherlands.
Ban
The NATO summit takes place on June 24 and 25 in The Hague. The flight ban for drones around The Hague, Valkenburg, and Noordwijk starts on June 18 and lasts until June 25. The ban around Schiphol and Rotterdam The Hague starts on June 23 and lasts until June 25.
Only drones explicitly approved for security purposes, such as those from the police or Defense, may fly in these areas.
Within a radius of 1.8 kilometers around the World Forum, where the summit takes place, there has been a ban on drone flights since May 16.
Restrictions
In addition to the ban within a radius of over 16 kilometers, there is a larger radius of over 92 kilometers around The Hague where restrictions apply. In addition to the already existing rules for drone flights, only drones with a maximum takeoff weight of 25 kilograms may fly in this wider radius up to a maximum height of 120 meters. This restriction also applies at Eindhoven Airport.
In the Netherlands, many tens of thousands of people own a drone. There have always been restrictions, such as in the vicinity of airports, but practice shows that not everyone is aware of the applicable rules. In 2023, there were already 40,000 illegal drone flights at Schiphol and Amsterdam alone.
