The Nedersaksenlijn makes an important contribution to improving accessibility in North and East Netherlands - and thus to structurally increasing the broad prosperity in the surrounding area.
From today, it will be explored how the line will run, which stations will be built, and how fast and how often the train will run. There will also be an examination of what the line means for spatial planning: what are, for example, the best locations for housing? How can we best utilize the opportunities that the line offers?
Secretary of State Thierry Aartsen: “The Nedersaksenlijn is more than a railway line. It offers new perspectives. Residents will soon find it easier to get to school or a hospital, and they can more easily get to work. The area will also become more attractive for companies to establish themselves. And there are great opportunities for housing construction. I notice a lot of enthusiasm for the Nedersaksenlijn. This is also because the line comes from the residents themselves. That is super beautiful.”
For the Nedersaksenlijn, over € 2 billion is available. The intention is to make the preferred decision in 2028. It is also another reason for a special moment: for the first time in 13 years, a new railway line is being constructed in the Netherlands.
Electrification Almelo-Mariënberg
Earlier today, Secretary of State Aartsen signed a Governance Agreement in Mariënberg (Overijssel) together with the province of Overijssel for the electrification of the Almelo-Mariënberg railway line. On the route, which is part of the Nedersaksenlijn, diesel trains will be definitively replaced by electric trains starting December 2028. This also marks a step towards the realization of the Nedersaksenlijn.
