Hoekstra is appointed with a base in Bonaire. He is currently a judge in the Midden-Nederland court. Previously, he was a judge in the Rotterdam court and the Utrecht court. He was also a Justice in the Amsterdam court of appeal and has already served two terms as a member of the Common Court of Justice.
Saarloos is appointed with a base in Sint Maarten. He is currently a judge in the Gelderland court. Before that, he was a bailiff and a lecturer in criminal and sanction law. Both are appointed as judges in civil law. Additionally, Hoekstra will be available as an investigating judge in criminal cases.
The Common Court of Justice of Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, and Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba administers justice on the islands. The judges at the Common Court of Justice handle civil cases, criminal cases, and administrative law cases (including tax matters), both in first instance and on appeal. The Common Court is also involved in special judicial colleges (such as for civil servant cases) and in colleges responsible for disciplinary law. The Court consists of judges in local service and seconded judges.
