Mr. Van Rijen is appointed to the Common Court effective August 1, 2025, with a base in Aruba. He will be part of the civil law section. Currently, mr. Van Rijen is a judge at the Court of Appeal Arnhem-Leeuwarden. He has previously served as a member and vice president of the Common Court. Before that, he was vice president and commercial judge at the Court of Rotterdam and substitute judge at the Court of Appeal in Den Bosch.
Mr. Woerdman is appointed to the Common Court effective August 15, 2025, also in the civil law section. Her base will be Curaçao. Currently, mr. Woerdman is a district judge at the Court of Noord-Holland. Previously, she was a judge at the Court of Amsterdam and an examining judge at the Court of Noord-Holland.
Mr. Van Rijssen is appointed to the Common Court effective September 1, 2025. She will be part of the criminal law section, based in Curaçao. Her current position is senior judge at the Court of Midden-Nederland. Before that, mr. Van Rijssen worked as a jurist at the National Ombudsman and held various judicial positions at the Court of Midden-Nederland, including the role of examining judge.
The Common Court of Justice for Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, and Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba administers justice on the islands. The judges at the Common Court of Justice handle civil cases, criminal cases, and administrative law cases (including tax matters), both in first instance and in appeal. The Common Court is also involved in special judicial colleges (such as for civil servant cases) and in colleges responsible for disciplinary law. The Court consists of judges in local service and seconded judges.
