More certainty to invest in sustainable energy
The SDE++ helps the Netherlands become less dependent on fossil energy and keep climate goals in sight. With this subsidy, companies can receive support for investments in sustainable energy and techniques that reduce CO₂ emissions. This makes the transition to a CO₂-neutral energy supply faster and gives companies more certainty to invest in new, sustainable solutions. The SDE++ reimburses the unprofitable top. The higher the energy price, the lower (or even zero) the subsidy.
As in previous years, so-called fences are used. This year, €750 million is available per domain. This means that part of the subsidy budget is reserved for specific categories or techniques. This prevents one type of project from using the entire budget and leaves room for various forms of sustainable energy and CO₂ reduction. The fence system thus ensures a balanced distribution of the available funds and supports the development of multiple techniques simultaneously.
New categories
Most categories in the upcoming opening round remain similar to previous years, such as solar energy, geothermal energy, hydrogen, and CO₂ capture and storage.
Additionally, the PBL has advised adding some new categories to the scheme, which the cabinet intends to open. This includes projects for solar energy along roads and railways, stimulating the use of unused land for these projects. Also, the possibilities for so-called process-integrated heat pumps are expanded. This helps further avoid the use of natural gas. Furthermore, two new categories of CO₂ capture and storage with low-carbon hydrogen are being considered.
