Minister Wiersma: “Our agricultural sector is among the most innovative in the world. This requires us to enable the sector to apply these innovations in practice. The innovation desk supports the sector in taking these much-needed steps.”

More Autonomy

In the coming years, there will be a shift from medium steering to target steering. This gives farmers more space to determine, based on their expertise, how they will achieve goals related to nitrogen, climate, and water quality. An important factor in achieving these goals is ensuring sufficient technical and social innovations that contribute to reduced emissions. Many of these innovations are promising in theory, but practical implementation often proves difficult. This calls for a central place for advice and support.

Public-Private Partnership

The National Innovation Desk for Livestock Farming is an initiative of more than 25 public and private organizations united in the Steering Committee Accelerating Innovation Emission Reduction Sustainable Livestock Farming. Livestock farmers and innovation developers can turn to this innovation desk with questions and for proper guidance to bring an innovative idea into practice. This innovation desk helps improve the innovation process, remove bottlenecks, and realize breakthrough innovations. The ultimate goal is to help livestock farming produce more efficiently with as few losses as possible on their farms. That is a win for the farmer and less emissions.
