There are no other poultry farms within the 1 and 3-kilometer zones around the infected location. Within the 10-kilometer zone, there are 7 commercial poultry farms. The farm is located in the same area as Hummelo and Toldijk, where avian influenza was also detected on October 24 and October 27 respectively. The restriction zones around Steenderen overlap with those of the outbreaks in Hummelo and Toldijk.
Transport Ban
A transport ban applies immediately throughout the entire 10-kilometer zone. This means that no poultry and/or hatching and consumption eggs may be transported from locations with birds in this zone. There is also a ban on the removal of manure from birds and used litter, as well as other animals and animal products from poultry farms. These measures are necessary to prevent spread to other parts of the country. The location of the 10-kilometer zone can be viewed on the animal disease viewer of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO).
National Measures
Since October 16, 2025, a national housing and shielding obligation applies in the Netherlands. The housing obligation applies to all commercially kept birds and the shielding obligation applies to non-commercially kept risk birds (e.g., hobby chickens).
Tracing Investigation
The NVWA is conducting tracing investigations into risky contacts. This investigates whether products or poultry have been transported to and from this location in the period prior to the report. If necessary, additional measures will follow, such as extra sampling or blocking a risky contact farm. These measures will be announced via an update in this press release and through the online channels of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Quality and Nature (LVVN).
