Six major caterers of the government pay extra attention to food from Dutch soil this week. This does not mean that only endive stew with smoked sausage and kale with a meatball will be served, but also other dishes with ingredients from Dutch soil, such as a salad with cauliflower, chicken, and beetroot, and Limburg sour meat with fries. This way, the government, which is a major buyer of food and drinks, reflects on the value of the Dutch food system.
Minister Femke Marije Wiersma: “Our Dutch farmers, fishermen, and gardeners deserve recognition, as they provide the best ingredients for good food day in and day out. This entire week is dedicated to what they have to offer and how delicious Dutch food can be. Often, we thoughtlessly buy our food in a supermarket without any awareness of where it comes from. There is still some missionary work to be done. I gladly contribute my part. This week, I will speak to many people about the value and strength of Dutch food, for example, in my ministrys company restaurant and during a meeting with Dutch farmers. I hope to inspire everyone to do more with products from Dutch soil, whether it’s about purchasing or preparing.”
The (H)onest Dutch Dish, an initiative of the House of Representatives, is part of the Week of Our Food, of which the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security, and Nature is a partner. During this week, numerous activities take place throughout the country. The ministry aims to strengthen the relationship between farmers, gardeners, fishermen, and society and to make people in the Netherlands more aware of the value of our food, which is internationally known for its high quality.
