Transport Ban
Due to the outbreak at the farm in Belgium, close to the Dutch border, part of the 3 and 10 kilometer protection and surveillance zones fall within the Netherlands. Within the 3km zone, there are five poultry farms being screened by the NVWA. In the 10km zone, there are 46 poultry farms, including a poultry slaughterhouse. An immediate transport ban applies within the 3 and 10-kilometer zones. This means no birds, hatching eggs, or consumption eggs may be transported from locations with birds in this zone. There is also a ban on the removal of bird manure and used litter, as well as other animals and animal products from farms with birds. These measures are necessary to prevent spread to other parts of the country. The exact location of the restriction zone can be viewed on the animal disease viewer of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO).
National Measures
Since October 16, 2025, a national housing and screening obligation applies in the Netherlands. The housing obligation applies to all commercially kept birds. The screening obligation applies to non-commercially kept risk birds (for example, hobby chickens).
Tracing Investigation
Following this infection, Belgium will conduct a tracing investigation into the source and possible risky contacts.
