At these counters, people can get information about what is important when they work, live, study, or do business across the border. Currently, there are 110 border information points spread across all border provinces.
Minister van Hijum: “In the region, foreign countries are often very close. A large city where you are going to study is just in Belgium or Germany. Or a new challenging job is on the other side of the border. Many people do not realize that there is all kinds of regulation that is just a bit different on the other side. The border information points do fantastic work to help people with that. But due to uncertainty about funding, staff and knowledge were at risk of being lost. I am very happy that we can provide a solution.”
Each year, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment (SZW) makes an additional €615,058 available. Including the existing funding, SZW will contribute €1,558,808 to the border information points starting in 2025. This amounts to 50% of the costs. The other half is paid by regional parties, such as provinces, municipalities, and labor market regions.
