Extra compensation for municipalities with long-term deficits in the welfare budget

Municipalities with large deficits in their budget for welfare and wage cost subsidies will receive more compensation for this. This is stated in an amendment decision that Secretary of State Nobel is opening for internet consultation today.

This concerns municipalities that have been facing deficits of 5% or greater in their budget for several years. They need to cover a smaller portion of the deficits themselves and will receive extra compensation from the joint resources of municipalities. This reduces the financial pressure on these municipalities.

For welfare recipients themselves, nothing changes due to this amendment decision. This is only about the way municipalities receive their budget from the government.

Internet Consultation

Interested parties can respond to the internet consultation until May 20, 2025. The goal is to have the amendment decision come into effect on January 1, 2026.
