The rent freeze has significant consequences for housing corporations. They receive less income and can therefore borrow and invest less. To maintain housing construction, it is important that housing corporations can continue to build. Each year, a total of 100,000 new homes need to be added, of which two-thirds should be affordable and 30 percent social.
Due to the rent freeze, corporations are facing a shortfall of approximately € 35 billion in investment capacity in the period up to 2034, out of a total of € 110 billion. Minister Keijzer is currently exploring compensation options for this.
More clarity before July 1
