The Senate adopted the budget for 2025 of the Municipal Fund on Tuesday, April 22. The factions of OPNL, GroenLinks-PvdA, SGP, D66, Volt, CDA, PVV, VVD, JA21, ChristenUnie, BBB, and 50PLUS voted in favor of the budget, while the factions of FVD, SP, and PvdD voted against. A week earlier, the vote had been postponed. Municipalities have been assigned many tasks in recent years while at the same time there are cuts being made to the municipal fund in the coming years. The debate with Minister Uitermark a week earlier largely revolved around this issue. On Monday, April 14, the minister was supposed to discuss future financing with the municipalities, but that meeting was postponed. For this reason, the CDA faction proposed on April 15 to postpone the vote by a week.
The Senate already adopted three motions on April 15 that were submitted with the Municipal Fund budget 2025:
- -Motion-Fiers et al. on safeguarding the autonomous task of municipalities.
- -Motion-Fiers et al. on adopting the financial advice of the Van Ark committee.
- -Amended motion-Van der Goot et al. on correcting too low inflation estimates within the municipal fund.
