At the Honor Roll of the Fallen in the States Passage of the House of Representatives, Dutch war victims were commemorated on Sunday morning, May 4. Part of the commemoration was the traditional turning of a page of the Honor Roll of the Fallen.
Chairman of the House of Representatives Martin Bosma and former Chairman Wim Deetman gave speeches. Chairman of the Senate Jan Anthonie Bruijn participated in the commemoration on behalf of the Senate. Students from the Johan de Witt Scholengroep from The Hague recited poems. The Chairpersons together laid a wreath on behalf of the States General. Prime Minister Dick Schoof and Secretary of State Vincent Karremans laid a wreath on behalf of the Council of Ministers. After the students also laid a wreath, a minute of silence followed.
Honor Roll of the Fallen
The Honor Roll contains the last names and first names, place and date of birth, occupation or military rank, place and date of death or passing of nearly 18,000 fallen soldiers – as far as known. Since 1960, a page of the Honor Roll has been turned every day. The Honor Roll has been supplemented in later years in collaboration with the NIOD and was fully digitized in 2010. Family members of individuals listed on the Honor Roll were present at the commemoration.
