Members of the committee for Education, Culture and Science (OCW) received a manifesto on Tuesday, March 25, from the Universities of the Netherlands (UVL). With this manifesto, the organization indicates its opposition to the proposed cuts in higher education. The manifesto was presented by UVL chairman Caspar van den Berg. Committee chairman Theo Rietkerk (CDA) received the manifesto on behalf of the OCW committee.
UVL states that the government endangers its own goals in the field of innovation and labor productivity with the proposed cuts. The development of new medicines, food security, combating undermining crime, and good jurisprudence are at stake. According to UVL, good education is necessary for economic growth in a strong region.
Senator Rietkerk indicated that the budget of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science has been carefully reviewed. “Otherwise, we would not have needed three rounds of written questions.”
