On Tuesday, May 13, various permanent committee committees discussed ongoing legislative proposals. Below is a selection of these committee meetings. A complete overview can be found here.
The Committee for Social Affairs and Employment (SZW) received a technical briefing on the proposal Law on the Admission of Labor Allocation. Employees of the Labor Inspectorate and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment provided the committee members with explanations of several technical aspects of the legislative proposal.
Before a legislative proposal is ready for plenary consideration, committees consult with ministers and state secretaries, usually by submitting written questions. A selection:
- -The Committee for Infrastructure and Water Management/Housing and Spatial Planning (I&W/VRO) discussed the Initiative Proposal-Klaver and Ouwehand Law on Safe New Years Eve, or the fireworks ban. The factions of the BBB (Jaspers), GroenLinks-PvdA (Thijssen), VVD (Meijer), CDA (Rietkerk), D66 (Van Meenen), PVV (Van Kesteren), SP (Van Aelst), ChristenUnie (Holterhues) and FVD (Dessing) provided input for the report.
- -The Committee for European Affairs (EUZA) discussed the invitation from the House of Representatives Committee on European Affairs to co-sign a letter to the Hungarian government. The letter urges the withdrawal of recently adopted legislation in Hungary that bans Pride marches. The request for co-signature has been made to all committees for European Affairs of EU parliaments. The Senate committee decided by majority to proceed with co-signing. The factions of JA21 and FVD did not support this request.
- -The Committee for Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV) discussed the Tenth Progress Report on Nature. The factions of the CDA (Rietkerk and Prins), the BBB (Van Knapen) decided to provide input. This also applies to the factions of GroenLinks-PvdA (Kluit), SP (Van Aelst) and the PvdD (Visseren-Hamakers) collectively.
- -The Committee for Social Affairs and Employment (SZW) discussed the Improvement Measures for Childcare. Input for the second report came from the factions of BBB (Van Wijk), GroenLinks-PvdA, CDA and OPNL collectively (Ramsodit / Bakker-Klein / Van der Goot), VVD (Petersen) and D66 (Belhirch).
Senate committees discuss legislative proposals and meet regularly. Committees assess whether a legislative proposal is ready for plenary consideration or whether there are still questions to be asked of the government. Legislative proposals accompanied by a blank report are treated as a hammer piece. The most important decisions of the committees are made public as short notes.
Committee meetings can be followed live or via the livestream. More information about the possibilities can be found via this link: visit the First Chamber.
