On September 2, Jan Anthonie Bruijn (VVD) submitted his resignation as a member and as Chair of the Senate. Senator Mei Li Vos (PvdA) has been acting Chair since September 5. Vos has been the First Vice-Chair since July 4, 2023.
According to the Rules of Procedure of the Senate, the Chamber will elect a new Chair as soon as possible. For this purpose, a profile sketch was established during the plenary meeting on Tuesday, September 9, which is the same as that of 2023.
Every member of the Chamber has the opportunity to nominate themselves for the chairmanship. Members can express their interest in writing to the Clerk by Friday, September 26, at 12:00 PM. Subsequently, candidates will present their motivation in the plenary meeting on October 7 for a maximum of five minutes. Afterwards, members will vote in one or more written rounds.
If one of the current Vice-Chairs is elected as Chair, the election of a new Vice-Chair will follow the week after.
