The Senate commemorated former senator Friso Meeter on Tuesday, April 8. He was a member of the Senate for the PvdA from March 11, 1997, to June 8, 1999. In the Senate, Meeter mainly focused on justice.
Rotterdam was the city of his life. Apart from a stint in Amsterdam for studying Dutch law and Den Helder for the Royal Navy, he remained loyal to the Maas city until his death. After his studies, he returned to Rotterdam and became a lawyer, specializing in trusteeship.
He was a lawyer trustee of the RSV group and DAF. In the 1980s, he was also dean of the Rotterdam Bar Association. Besides his work and politics, Meeter was a board member of the Rotterdam 1990 Foundation, chairman of the Housing Council, and a member of the Disciplinary Court as a disciplinary judge.
Senate President Jan Anthonie Bruijn said during the commemoration: Friso Meeter was a skilled lawyer, committed social democrat, and true Rotterdammer. May our respect for his person and his contributions to society and the Dutch parliamentary democracy be a support for his family and friends.
