On Monday, May 19, former senator Hans Wiegel passed away at the age of 83. Wiegel was a member of the Senate from June 13, 1995, to April 1, 2000. In the Senate, he represented the VVD party on domestic affairs. On the night of May 18 to 19, 1999, during what later became known as the Night of Wiegel, he voted against the bill for a corrective referendum, causing a crisis in the second purple cabinet. Hans Wiegel will be commemorated at a yet to be determined time.
