Senator Cees van de Sanden leaves the VVD faction in the Senate and continues as an independent faction. On Wednesday, October 8, he sent a letter about this to Senate President Mei Li Vos and Clerk Remco Nehmelman.
Van de Sanden has been a member of the Senate since September 24, 2024. Previously, he was a temporary member from June 27, 2023, to October 12, 2023. He replaced senator Geerdink. As a result of the split, the Senate now has 17 factions instead of 16. The VVD remains the third largest faction with 9 seats, behind GroenLinks-PvdA (14 seats) and BBB (13 seats).
