Letters of Formal Notice
The Commission urges BULGARIA, GREECE, SPAIN, the NETHERLANDS, and PORTUGAL to correctly transpose the Drinking Water Directive
The European Commission has sent formal notices to these countries for failing to adequately implement the recast Drinking Water Directive (Directive (EU) 2020/2184), which aims to enhance water resilience and protect public health.
Other actions include notices to LITHUANIA regarding the Water Framework Directive, to GERMANY about the Waste Framework Directive, and to SPAIN concerning the Seveso III Directive.
Each Member State is given two months to respond and rectify the identified issues; otherwise, the Commission may escalate to issuing reasoned opinions.
Commission Calls on SLOVAKIA to Align National Laws with the Environmental Impact Assessment Directive
The Commission has issued a notice to Slovakia for failing to comply with the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Directive (Directive 2011/92/EU), requiring proper assessment of major projects’ environmental impact.
These enforcement actions aim to ensure that all Member States adhere to EU regulations to protect the environment and public health.

The Commission continues to address compliance issues with reasoned opinions sent to various Member States, including BULGARIA, GREECE, and ITALY.
