The EU is providing €258 million in humanitarian aid to the Horn of Africa and West and Central Africa to alleviate urgent needs such as food shortages and healthcare.
For the Horn of Africa, €107.5 million is allocated to support the most vulnerable people facing conflicts and natural disasters. Approximately 70 million people in this region are in urgent need of aid. The conflicts in Sudan are a major driver of these humanitarian needs.
In West and Central Africa, €150.6 million will assist countries suffering from ongoing insecurity and conflict. This region faces complex, protracted crises, with the Central Sahel and Lake Chad area being the epicenters.
The funding will be used for food aid, healthcare, water, sanitation, and education. This brings the total EU aid to Africa in 2025 to €750 million.
Background
In addition to aid for the Horn of Africa, the Commission has already announced €40 million for Ethiopia and €269 million for the Sudan crisis. The allocation for West and Central Africa is on top of the previously announced €78.5 million for Mauritania and Chad.
