To address the crisis in Sudan, the European Commission and Member States have pledged over €522 million in 2025 during a conference in London, organized together with the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and the African Union. This follows two years of armed conflict that has severely affected the population.
From the total EU amount, the Commission pledged €282 million. The remainder was pledged by Member States such as Austria, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Malta, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.
EU aid will provide urgently needed health and nutritional care, food assistance, water and sanitation, shelter, protection, and education to the most vulnerable households, including internally displaced persons, refugee families, and host communities.
This conference follows Commissioner Lahbibs visit to Chad, where she witnessed the devastating impact of the conflict on refugees, women, and children. It aims to draw international attention to the prolonged humanitarian tragedy in Sudan and take practical steps to improve access to aid.
Background
In 2025, the EU has allocated €160 million for humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable in Sudan. Additionally, €109 million is allocated for the humanitarian response to the Sudan crisis in neighboring countries. An extra €13 million is provided for stabilization assistance, bringing the total EU contribution to the regional response to the Sudan crisis to €282 million.
This conference builds on previous efforts, such as a Senior Officials Meeting in Brussels on March 13 and a joint EU/UNHCR event focusing on the regional dimension of the Sudan crisis on April 10.
