The Commission offers more flexibility to affected farmers in Mayotte
In response to the damage from cyclone Chido, the European Commission has proposed measures for quicker and more flexible support to the Mayotte region through adjustments to the POSEI program. This allows affected farmers to continue receiving aid even if their agricultural activities are temporarily disrupted. They must commit to restoring their production capacity, with annual progress checks by the Commission.
It is also proposed to remove the 10% budget cap for emergency aid and extend the beneficiary selection period beyond June 30, 2025, enabling Mayotte to fully utilize all available rural development funds.
The cyclone significantly impacted agriculture, with damage to crops and infrastructure such as roads, disrupting farming activities. The proposed measures provide additional EU funds for a rapid recovery of the agricultural sector, highlighting the EUs commitment to providing swift assistance.
