The Commission offers 17 countries the chance to purchase over 27 million flu vaccines
The EU strengthens its readiness for a potential flu pandemic. A new joint procurement contract, signed by the European Commission via the Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority, allows 17 countries to buy up to 27,403,200 doses of pandemic flu vaccine.
The agreement with pharmaceutical company Seqirus UK Ltd. ensures the supply of Foclivia, a vaccine to protect citizens when a pandemic is declared by WHO or the EU. Though forecasting a pandemic is challenging, this framework contract enhances EU-wide preparedness and response to safeguard public health.
