The Commission approves two new geographical indications
The European Commission has approved adding two new products to the quality schemes register for agricultural products and foodstuffs: Pulpo Seco de Adra from Spain as Traditional Speciality Guaranteed (TSG) and Aydın Çam Fıstığı from Türkiye as Protected Designation of Origin (PDO).
Pulpo Seco de Adra is a dried octopus product from Adra, Almería in southeast Spain. The preparation involves cleaning, salting, and sun-drying the octopus, which is then hung on metal racks and exposed to the regions sea breezes and sunlight. This method, practiced for over two centuries, gives the product its characteristic reddish-pink color, firm and chewy texture, and intense marine aroma.
Aydın Çam Fıstığı refers to pine nuts cultivated in the province of Aydın, in western Türkiye. The nuts are distinguished by their very pointed shape, smooth texture, and light cream to dark beige color. They have a slightly oily consistency and a delicate pine aroma and flavor. The meticulous harvesting and drying process preserves their unique qualities.
These new designations join the more than 3,661 protected names already listed in the eAmbrosia database. More information is available on the Quality Policy pages.
