Commission proposes agreements on transfer of passenger name records data with Norway and Iceland
Today, the European Commission has proposed to sign two bilateral agreements to transfer passenger name records (PNR) data with Norway and Iceland. These agreements will enable Norway and Iceland to receive passenger information from air carriers operating between these countries and the EU. This aims to enhance law enforcement cooperation and combat terrorism and organized crime while ensuring high standards for security and privacy.
The Council will now assess these proposals. Following the agreements signature, consent from the European Parliament and the Council, as well as from Norway and Iceland, will be needed.
The EU has previously signed agreements for EU carriers to transfer PNR data to the United States, Australia, the UK, and Canada. Todays proposals further the Commissions commitment to strengthen law enforcement cooperation and information exchange based on shared values.
