SUMMIT PACKAGE
What does the Summit package consist of?
There are three main outcomes from todays Summit:
- EU-United Kingdom Joint Statement
- Security and Defence Partnership between the EU and the United Kingdom
- Common Understanding between the European Commission and the United Kingdom
Additionally, the European Commission and the United Kingdom noted political agreements leading to full reciprocal access to fishing waters until 30 June 2038 and the continuous expansion of energy cooperation.
EXISTING AGREEMENTS
How is todays package related to the Withdrawal and Trade Agreements?
The Withdrawal Agreement, including the Windsor Framework, and the Trade and Cooperation Agreement remain the foundation of the EU-UK relationship. They provide a strong basis for cooperation across multiple areas.
Today, the EU and the UK renewed their commitment to the full and timely implementation of these agreements.
The package builds upon this solid foundation.
CONSOLIDATION OF THE TRADE AND COOPERATION AGREEMENT
What has been decided on fisheries?
A political agreement was reached for full reciprocal access to fishing waters from 2026 to 2038, ensuring stability and predictability for fishers.
What has been decided on energy?
It was agreed to continuously extend the application of the Trade and Cooperation Agreements energy title, with the first extension until 31 March 2027.
