Good morning,
Today the College adopted the AI Continent Action Plan, affirming our belief that the EU can lead in AI.
We boast top talents in our universities and research institutions, surpassing the US with 30% more AI researchers.
Our ecosystem of startups is pioneering AI innovations across sectors like healthcare and robotics.
However, we must accelerate our efforts as the pace of change quickens.
In our interconnected world, AI is essential to competitiveness and innovation.
The AI Continent Action Plan targets five key areas:
First, enhancing AI infrastructure in the EU, with AI Factories and Gigafactories funded through public-private partnerships.
Were launching a Call for Interest for AI Gigafactories, alongside the InvestAI Facility to mobilize EUR 20 billion.
Second, improving data access with Data Labs for secure sharing within AI Factories.
Third, boosting AI adoption in strategic sectors, aiming to increase the current 13% usage in EU companies.
Fourth, strengthening AI skills with education and research initiatives, and facilitating skilled immigration to boost talent.
Lastly, reducing regulatory burden for AI Act implementation, with guidance and a code of practice.
An AI Service Desk will open in July to assist with AI Act inquiries, reducing legal costs for companies.
Under the AI Act, 85% of AI systems remain unregulated. We aim for simplicity for the remaining 15%.
We are hitting the ground running, starting an AI Factory Tour in Luxembourg, Germany, and Italy to discuss the Action Plan.
Time for action is now!
Thank you.
