Ladies and gentlemen,
Im delighted to join you on this very special anniversary, even from a distance!
The Ancona Declaration,
a landmark document adopted 25 years ago,
was designed to enhance regional cooperation and integration in the Adriatic-Ionic Region.
And it has succeeded!
The Declaration acknowledged the significance of efficient transport networks
in driving economic growth,
social development
and environmental sustainability.
Thanks to improved connections among our countries,
we have unlocked new opportunities in trade and tourism,
as well as in cultural exchanges.
The Ancona Declaration laid the groundwork
for the European Unions Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region.
Since then, we have enhanced maritime connections,
developed green corridors,
and modernised the regions airport and port infrastructure.
This macro-regional approach
has enabled us to identify synergies and create networks,
ensuring consistency and complementarity
among national projects.
This is the best way
to optimise resource use,
avoid duplication
and increase overall impact.
We have made notable progress on transport infrastructure
in the Adriatic and Ionian Region over the past two decades.
However, there is a challenge!
We still lack a comprehensive transport network,
which limits the movement of people, goods, and services.
Moving forward, we must continue to invest in transport infrastructure
and prioritise projects that will address these gaps.
As we work together to maximise the potential of the regions transport links,
we need a coordinated approach,
bringing together governments, international organisations, and the private sector.
By combining our resources and expertise,
we can build a modern, efficient, and environmentally sustainable transport network.
The recent implementation of the revised TEN-T Regulation
has provided us with a legal framework,
infrastructure standards
and deadlines for action.
It has also established the European Transport Corridors and the European Maritime Space.
These initiatives will enhance connections among our countries,
reducing travel times and boosting economic competitiveness.
In my view,
the Ancona Declaration has served as a catalyst for cooperation and development in our region,
largely due to its emphasis on transport links.
So on this 25th anniversary,
I wish to reaffirm my commitment to enhancing connectivity,
and I hope you will join me.
Thank you.
