It is a pleasure to be with you today. I would like to start with two simple words: thank you. Your efforts energize Europes initiatives worldwide, a commitment Ive witnessed firsthand.
In these challenging times, the EU stands as a beacon of peace and security, committed to compassion and humanity even when the world seems otherwise. We remain steadfast in our values, undeterred by cynicism.
The EU is a key humanitarian force globally, increasing our humanitarian aid budget to 1.9 billion euros this year. Yet, the needs outpace resources. We call on the global community to share the responsibility, as the EU alone cannot bridge the widening funding gap.
Today, I emphasize the importance of International Humanitarian Law and addressing global fragility. This law is central to our actions in crisis zones like Ukraine, Syria, and Sudan, where breaches are frequent. We must defend this law robustly to protect the vulnerable.
Fragility exacerbates global challenges, demanding a cohesive EU response. Climate change, political instability, and economic hardship require strategic cooperation and investment to foster resilience.
Recent visits to regions like Ukraine and Syria highlighted the tangible impact of EU aid, fostering hope and rebuilding lives. Our commitment to these regions is unwavering, as is our support for peace efforts in Gaza and Sudan.
Ambassadors, your role is vital in representing the EUs voice and forging partnerships. Together, we demonstrate that Europe is a proactive force for shared humanity.
