Thank you, President, Honourable Members of the European Parliament,
Three years ago, Ukraine was brutally attacked by Russia, and the conflict continues. Our continent has faced the unthinkable.
The geopolitical landscape has shifted, placing energy at the forefront of global politics. We must reduce our heavy reliance on energy imports for a safer and more resilient future.
Our dependency on Russian energy has exposed the EU to risks, including market volatility and economic threats.
In response, the EU launched the REPowerEU Plan, aiming to end dependency on Russian energy by improving efficiency and accelerating renewable energy deployment.
Since Russias aggression in 2022, the EU has implemented sanctions, including bans on Russian coal and oil, reducing Russian oils share in EU imports from 25% to 3%.
Gas imports from Russia have decreased, replaced by renewable energy and diversified sources.
The energy transition, through clean energy and efficiency, diminishes our reliance on fossil fuels.
We must stop financing Russias war through energy purchases and continue phasing out Russian energy dependency.
A coordinated European approach is essential to counter Russias energy threats and ensure a diverse and resilient market.
We must stay united to uphold our values. I welcome this debate and your contributions.
Thank you!
