“Check against delivery”
Secretary-General Guterres, dear António,
Dear Kaja,
Minister al-Shaibani,
Ministers,
Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
In the last decade, weve gathered in Brussels supporting Syrians. Despite dark times in the war, the Brussels Conference kept hope alive.
Farah, a Syrian girl, inspired us years ago. Shes now an adult, aiming to be a journalist in Syria, no longer just dreaming but seeing real possibilities as Syria transforms.
While reconciliation is ongoing, and historic agreements like those with the Kurdish SDF bring hope, challenges like violence remain. Yet, Syrias commitment to justice and inclusivity is crucial.
Europe stands with Syrians, supporting immediate humanitarian needs and long-term recovery. Weve pledged nearly EUR 2.5 billion for 2025-2026, urging others to join us.
Reconstruction and economic revival are vital. Weve lifted sanctions on key sectors to encourage investment, aiming for a new, prosperous Syria.
The Brussels Conference amplifies Syrian voices, planning civil society dialogues in Damascus, fostering freedom and representation for all.
Syrias future belongs to its people, and we pledge our support in this journey.
Thank you. Long live Europe.
