Thank you, Prime Minister, dear Mette,
Dear Cadets,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am honored to be here today. Your commitment to the security of others is admirable. This historic academy is the perfect place to discuss the need for a strong European defense. Europe must prepare for potential conflicts to ensure peace.
Denmark understands its strategic position and the threats that come with it. The war in Ukraine and tensions in the Baltic Sea underscore the need for robust defense. The Prime Ministers decision to increase defense spending is an example of leadership.
Dear Cadets,
Each generation of this academy has faced its own challenges. After World War II, there was fear of attacks from the east, leading to Denmarks NATO membership. Now, we must reinvest in defense to address future threats.
Today, we must recognize that the world has changed. Russia is heavily investing in military capabilities and the US is shifting its focus to the Indo-Pacific region. Europe must respond by strengthening its own defense.
Dear Cadets,
It is time to be honest about the challenges ahead. Europe faces a fundamental choice: do we remain reactive or do we lead in strengthening our security? We must act now to build a safer Europe.
The answer is clear. Europe is ready to step up. We must invest in our defense capabilities and collaborate to ensure our security. The coming years are crucial to strengthen our defensive position.
Our priorities are clear: increased defense spending, cooperation within Europe, support for Ukraine, and strengthening our defense industry. Together, we can make Europe safer and stronger.
