Ladies and gentlemen,
Thank you to Minister Darius for todays important meeting. Europes responsibility in defense is crucial, and tomorrow the Commission will present a White Paper on European Defense. Transport plays a key role in this new era of Military Mobility, crucial for moving troops and equipment swiftly across Europe.
The current military mobility budget of 1.7 billion euros was spent on 95 projects in 21 member states, including 14 in Poland. Examples include strengthening bridges over the A2 motorway and adapting Warsaw Chopin Airport for dual-use.
As we face new geopolitical challenges, we must increase investment, remove bottlenecks, and ensure our infrastructure supports heavy equipment. We have established four military mobility corridors with NATO, now legally recognized. Our focus is on removing bottlenecks and launching hotspot projects, complementing the ReARM initiative.
Cybersecurity is a vital tool in our resilience, with transport being the second most targeted sector for cyberattacks. We need improved threat detection and response, ensuring Europes leadership in safe mobility.
The European Commission supports member states in keeping Europe safe, emphasizing joint efforts for security.
Thank you.
