Ladies and gentlemen,
It is an honor to be here today at the European Shipping Summit to deliver the opening speech. My sincere thanks to the organizers for this important gathering.
This summit is the platform for discussing the future of European shipping.
We meet at a time of profound transformation, caused by geopolitical tensions and trade wars. Security has become paramount.
We aim for climate neutrality by 2050, reinforcing Europes industrial leadership and economic resilience.
Europe can secure its place as a global maritime leader by capitalizing on its expertise, innovation, and agility.
Today, I want to focus on four priorities that will define our future: Security and resilience, Competitiveness, Our workforce, and Decarbonization.
Shipping is a lifeline for Europes economy. It underpins our security, fuels our industry, and connects us to the world.
The EU is taking steps to secure our trade routes, such as the EUNAVFOR ASPIDES operation in the Red Sea.
To strengthen our resilience, we must ensure stable and fair trade conditions, strengthen European shipbuilding and maritime technology, and invest in ports and digital infrastructure.
We also need to address pressure from international competitors and invest in innovative and sustainable ships.
Decarbonization is not just an environmental obligation, but also an economic opportunity. European shipping must lead in green fuels and clean technologies.
The EU wants to support the shipping industry with a future Sustainable Transport Investment Plan.
Finally, we must continue to work with allies and international organizations to ensure global trade flows remain resilient and fair.
Thank you!
