Thank you, Annalena Baerbock, for your leadership on European and international stages. I am thrilled that Brazil will lead the next COP. During the Petersberg Climate Dialogue, weve seen Brazils proactive and ambitious leadership, vital for global progress.
We are in challenging geopolitical times, with multilateralism and the rule of law under threat. Climate action faces many obstacles. However, there is no alternative. The situation may worsen before it improves, but humanity must act now.
Our meeting at the Petersberg Climate Dialogue is crucial as we head towards COP30. We appreciate Germanys role in organizing these discussions, which involve leaders, experts, and stakeholders worldwide, marking a significant step towards Belém.
We aim to accelerate climate action, strengthen international cooperation, and ensure previous COP promises translate into tangible outcomes. Ten years after the Paris Agreement, its foundation is more vital than ever.
Our goal is to limit the global temperature rise to 1.5°C. At COP28, we decided to transition away from fossil fuels, a game-changer in climate change efforts. COP29 tripled the USD 100 billion climate finance target.
COP30 is a chance to reaffirm our commitment to the Paris Agreement, building on COP28 and COP29 successes. We will highlight ambitious Nationally Determined Contributions to push global efforts forward.
Despite progress, more work is needed. Success at COP30 will signal that transitioning to a net-zero world is not only possible but underway. Thank you.
